After tossing up options in mid-2018 between WoT and WT I had opted for World of Tanks Blitz and then moved on to WoT PC. Now in April 2019 I decided to give War Thunder Ground Vehicles a go (I had a brief go in 2018 with WT Aviation already but I've been enjoying tanks at lot). One reason is WT has three modes of gameplay to migrate to from Arcade, to realistic and through to Simulator, and you can even opt to jump into a plane and finish off a tank battle that way. Unlike WoT there is no playable artillery but you can summon artillery in the game to target an area.

Another key difference is WoT has a hitpoint system of depleting points through damage whilst WT will allow a tank to take a lot of damage but its critical parts are affected and killing all the crew or exploding the ammo racks inside will kill off the tank. So sometimes you can be killed by one well-placed shot. There is certainly a shade more realism with WT.

So I'm still in Tier 1 in my second tank which is a German Pz.IV C with a battle rating of 1.3. I'm trying not to rush through the tiers in this game by buying premium vehicles (yet at least). I'll be grinding my way through the German tanks but I'm aiming to spend some time in Tiers 1 - 3 as things get a lot hotter from Tier 4 upwards so you want to proceed incrementally.

World of Tanks Ruinfield Battlefield in my Tier 8 Lowe Tank (video)

Don't expect any dramatic action from me in this video but it does show off the graphics and gameplay a bit of World of Tanks PC (played in Linux using WINE so don't let the PC version put anyone off). Looking carefully you will also spot the heat wavering out of the exhausts of the tank.

The Lowe is a German Heavy Tank with a very accurate gun but reasonably light front armour so the idea is to position this tank 70-90 degrees side on to better deflect anything coming towards you. The video shows a few shots glancing off including a notorious Skorpion G shot (more luck than anything else as I did not see it coming).

More people than ever are gaming on PC - Steam’s monthly active user count has increased by a massive 23 million people

As the year draws to a close, it is time for the various gaming markets to assess their successes and failures.

The PC gaming market seems to be going from strength to strength, if Steam’s popularity is anything to go by. Steam is comfortably the most popular PC gaming storefront around, hosting a wide variety of popular games including Dota 2, CS:GO, PUBG, and GTA V. According to Steam’s owner, Valve, Steam’s monthly active user count has increased by a massive 23 million people compared to last year.

Steam topped 90 million monthly active users in October – a substantial increase on last year’s 67 million user peak.

PC gaming revenue increased by 18.3% in the same time period, generating a total of $586 million.

This R425,000 (US$30,000) rig is the craziest gaming setup we've ever seen - but cup holders are important near expensive electronics

Lewis Hilsenteger is always showing off the latest and coolest technologies over on his YouTube channel, Unbox Therapy.

But Hilsenteger may have outdone himself with this particular setup, which he filmed earlier this year. He rigged up a $20,000 gaming computer to probably the craziest-looking game chair we've ever seen, added three monitors, and designated snack areas to create the "ultimate gaming PC setup." He even threw in a PlayStation 4 Pro, just for good measure.

It's comprised of an elaborate gaming chair, a high-end gaming PC, a PlayStation 4 Pro, computer accessories from SteelSeries, a snack cart, a refrigerator, and three massive displays.

That said if you're going to spend serious time gaming good lumbar support is also important! Don't miss the video at the bottom of the post which shows this rig in the dark... really impressive!
